Sloss Furnaces, a Birmingham-based iron manufacturing complex, was established in 1881. The furnace played a significant role in the economic development of Birmingham, Alabama. The site was declared a National Historical Landmark in 1981 and is now an educational museum and home to a community of metal-working artists. The ten images in the Sloss Furnaces folio were created over the course of a 3-day visit to Sloss Furnaces National Historical Landmark in January 2013.
